Senior members of the Republican Party in Israel, led by Attorney Marc Zell, Chairman of the Republican Party in Israel and Vice President of the Global Republican Party, met yesterday (Sunday) with the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel, Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif. They discussed the serious threats developing against the Druze community in southern Syria, in the Suwayda region, home to hundreds of thousands of Druze and the largest Druze population in Syria.

“Leaders of the Druze community presented us with troubling reports about terrorist forces affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra threatening innocent Druze civilians,” said Attorney Marc Zell. “The Druze community in Israel and worldwide is united and loyal, and it is our responsibility to convey this critical information to the Trump administration and to the U.S. Congress. We are working to mobilize essential American support to protect the Druze community from threats and terrorist activity”, read the republican statement.

Marc Zell added: “I am in contact with officials in the Trump administration and with members of Congress to ensure that the United States is aware of the developing situation and can take action to prevent harm to innocent civilian populations. The Druze are loyal allies of both Israel and the United States, and we will not stand by while they are under threat.”

At the conclusion of the meeting,  which included Ariel Sender, Chief of Staff of the Republican Party in Israel, and other party officials,  it was decided that the Republican Party in Israel would continue to monitor the situation and work to rally American support to prevent harm to the Druze community in Syria, while maintaining ongoing contact with Druze leadership in Israel.
