Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained a minor leg injury during an Israeli airstrike on June 16 targeting the lower floors of a government building in western Tehran, according to Iranian media affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Fars News Agency, which is closely tied to the IRGC, reported that the strike occurred on the morning of Monday, June 16, during a session of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council being held in the building.
Among those present at the time were President Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i, and other senior Iranian officials.
According to the report, six missiles or bombs were aimed at the building’s main entrances and exits in an apparent attempt to block escape routes and disrupt airflow—tactics reminiscent of past Israeli operations, including the reported assassination attempt on Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.
Following the explosions, the building’s power was cut, but officials managed to evacuate using a pre-prepared emergency escape route. President Pezeshkian and several others reportedly suffered minor leg injuries during the escape.
Iranian authorities are reportedly investigating the possibility that a spy leaked details about the meeting’s location and timing.
In a separate interview on Iranian state television, senior IRGC commander Mohsen Rezaee confirmed that “Israel struck six points at the site where the Supreme National Security Council was meeting, but none of its members suffered even minor injuries.”
Just days earlier, President Pezeshkian directly accused Israel of attempting to assassinate him. In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Pezeshkian stated:
“They did try—yes, they tried, but they failed.”
