The King David kosher restaurant in Athens, Greece, was vandalized by six individuals in what appears to be a violent antisemitic attack.
The attackers stormed into the establishment and immediately began spray-painting antisemitic graffiti, including messages such as “Smash Zionism” and “No Zionist is safe here.”
Police are currently investigating the incident.
It should be noted that while Greece continues to struggle with high levels of antisemitism, it is one of the few countries where such attitudes have seen a significant decline in recent years. According to data from the Anti-Defamation League, the percentage of Greek adults holding antisemitic views dropped from 69% in 2014 to 50% in recent surveys.
Nevertheless, Greece still ranks 73rd out of 103 countries surveyed in terms of antisemitic sentiment—well above the average for European nations.
The Jewish population in Greece is estimated at around 5,000, with the majority residing in Athens.
