Saudi Arabia is closely following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United States, and a source within the Saudi royal family told Roi Kais of Kan News that Riyadh believes the developing agreement between Israel, Syria, and the U.S. may have a positive impact and help lay the groundwork for an agreement with the Saudis as well. This was reported Wednesday morning on the “Morning Journal” program on Kan Reshet Bet.
However, the same Saudi source clarified that progress on the matter depends on Trump and Netanyahu, and that the Palestinian Authority will need to be brought into the picture in Gaza.
“We also don’t want Hamas and consider it a terrorist organization,” the source said.
According to him, after Israel, the U.S., and the Palestinian Authority reach their own agreement, it will pave the way for normalization. From the Saudi point of view, the emerging arrangement in Syria is a preparation for an agreement between Israel, the American administration, and the Palestinians, without Hamas.
In recent months, Saudi Arabia has expressed anger over Israeli strikes in Syria, which have since stopped. These were perceived as an attempt to undermine President Ahmad Al-Sharaa’s rule.
In May, Bloomberg News reported that France and Saudi Arabia were jointly working on a proposal to disarm Hamas and dismantle the military wing of the terrorist organization.
According to the report, Hamas would be allowed to take part in a future Palestinian government. Allowing Hamas to retain a degree of political power may increase the likelihood that the terrorist group will agree to disarm.
One Response
Allowing Hamas to retain any degree of political power is NO guarantee that they will disarm. In my opinion, they have to be completely out of the picture or kidnappings, other terrorist acts will continue against Israel : as will the oppression against their own People.
