Montreal, July 31, 2025 — Pro‑Palestinian protesters stormed the Egyptian consulate in Montreal today, demanding that Egypt immediately open its border with Gaza to allow civilians and aid to pass through. The demonstrators entered the consulate building, disrupted its operations, and loudly banged pots and pans while chanting, “Open Gaza border now!”
The protest, which drew about a dozen of activists, escalated quickly as participants forced their way into the consular offices on Rue de la Montagne. Videos shared on social media showed protesters inside the building, waving Palestinian flags, confronting staff, and refusing to leave.
The consulate was temporarily shut down during the disruption.
Egypt has come under increasing criticism for its role in the blockade of Gaza. The Rafah crossing—the primary exit point from Gaza not controlled by Israel—has remained largely closed throughout the war. Egypt has also built a fortified wall along its border and expanded a buffer zone that critics say prevents both aid from entering and civilians from escaping..
As of Thursday evening, the Egyptian government had not issued a statement on the incident in Montreal.
